SuperStart
This past fall and winter, I was tasked with designing and implementing the virtual set (pictured in the bottom left) for CIY’s preteen tour “SuperStart”, which saw about 15,000+ attendees.
The theme of the weekend event was “Shaped” which was an exposition in how we are pliable people. We are influenced by many things around us much like paint, or playdough, or blocks (ie, the design theme being based mainly around craft items.)
My goal was to surround the main theme with lots of elements that helped leave an impression, to help kids associate their toys with how they are being shaped in life.
Everything was modelled and simulated in blender.
Realtime playback was handled by UE5.
I also got to tap into some of my animation chops and made the above animation in blender!
MIX
In addition to the above set, I also charged with the task of creating a background for the stage games at CIY’s middle school event “MIX” later this summer.
The theme for this one was sci-fi and space, so I made a bridge with a holodeck that acted as a frame for all of the stage games which were played in the open window in the middle.
We were not running Unreal engine for this event, so all of the renders were strung together as videos rendered out of Blender.
